2020 | IONM Spine

Spinal diseases are a common reason for orthopaedic spine surgery. Injuries to the spinal cord, spinal nerves and their blood supply can have far-reaching consequences for the patient. Nowadays, operations on the spine with IONM increase savety for the patients. This course will give you an introduction to the different options available for monitoring the motor and somatosensory pathways. You'll learn how you can monitor neural function during an operation by directly stimulating the nerve root and reduce the risk of post-operative malfunctions. Get an insight into the practical application of the IONM during a live surgery at the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital.
